Engine No. 1A 7P 11631

When Jaguar introduced the ultimate V-12 Series III version of the famed E-Type for 1971, the original Fixed Head Coupe was discontinued. In its place continued the variant known as the 2+2, with longer bodywork and a slightly raised roofline, accommodating comfortable space for an adult driver and passenger, and two children aft. On the longer Series III chassis with the smooth and powerful twelve-cylinder chassis, this was truly a family sports car.

Many of these cars were outfitted with the Borg-Warner automatic transmission, but the four-speed manual transmission could still be had for more performance-minded owners.

The example shown here is one such 'three-pedal' car, equipped in Pale Primrose with Biscuit tan leather interior. It was fully restored by former owners Gunter Hauptman of New York and Martin Conner of Florida to a very highly detailed standard, unusual for a Series III E-Type coupe; nearly three decades after its completion, it exhibits some light use throughout while remaining in fine condition. Comparison of the present motor number with the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate indicates that the motor is a correct replacement V-12. In addition to the desirable four-speed transmission, the car is also equipped with factory air conditioning, British Leyland AM/FM radio, and correct Smiths gauges and Wilton wool carpeting, as well as 15-inch chrome wire wheels with Michelin XWX radials and original exhaust trumpets. At the time of cataloging, the E-Type had recorded 46,712 miles, and is accompanied by an original jack as well as a file of invoices and receipts from its restoration.

This is an excellent example of a model only rarely seen so finely finished.
