We have a stunning 1961 MG A 1600 Mk2 available. Originally it was a Belgium supplied car we have recently brought over to us in Holland. On inspecting the car one thing was immediately obvious; this car has been loved and cared for by people who have respected its originality. We seldom have had the pleasure in finding such an original car interior!

The bodywork is completely original and looks a peach. Everywhere the panelwork is nice and thin and very well maintained. There are a few signs of almost invisible wear to be found. The brightwork too is very neat. The good quality and almost unblemished paintwork is down to having been given a good respray. This car has its original grey coated rims shod in correctly sized good quality rubber. The chassis is also in a well maintained state and naturally rust-free. The neat hood is although not new in good condition and closes properly. The iconic luggage rack forms part of this MG A’s outfit.

The car’s interior trim is without doubt the star of the show. Its white pipped black leather seats have developed a gorgeous patina over the years. The carpets are all original as are the rubber matts! The MG A is from an era that Jaeger was the go-to supplier of beautiful top quality car instruments as is the case here. All gauges and controls in this car are in correct working order. Mechanically the car is uncomplicated and efficient. The MG A 1600 Mk2 has as you already may have gathered a 1600c 4-cylinder engine with twin carburettors. The engine develops 80 horsepower transmitted through a good working 4-speed manual gearbox. Brakes and suspension are more than capable and have been extremely well maintained. All in all the engine runs smoothly and has a bit more torque than the 1500’s.

In short this is a beautifully maintained 1961 MG A 1600 Mk2 with its original interior trim. Seeing these cars one does have to pause and reflect on where it all went so horribly wrong with the British car industry. If Mazda now can still manage to sell thousands of MX-5’s, you would have thought the Brits could have played their hand a little bit better. On the other hand with cars like this one, who needs a new one?
