1970 VW Type 3 Variant.
By the late 1950s, the wunderkind from Wolfsburg was redefining economical motoring around the world. The simple, durable, and well-made Type 1 and Type 2, popularly the Bug and Bus, had already put Volkswagen on the map. The small-displacement engines and unconventional styling of those people-movers were both selling points and handicaps, depending on perspective, and VW executives knew there was room in the product line—and an opening in the market—for a more spacious, powerful, and sophisticated type of Volkswagen. With engineering help from Porsche, VW developed its eponymous third model family.

Volkswagen officially debuted the Type 3 at the 1961 Frankfurt Motor Show, although it released photos of the “VW 1500” two-door sedan (officially Type 31, or Notchback) and two-door wagon (Type 36 Variant, or Squareback) earlier that year. Sporty models, including a 1500 Cabriolet, Type 34 Karmann Ghia 1500, and Karmann Ghia 1500 Cabriolet, were also shown in Frankfurt. All these new cars included the compact namesake 1500 (1,493-cc/91.1-cu.in., 53-hp) “underfloor” engine that made room for a luggage compartment above. While both Cabriolets remained one-offs, the 1500 Notchback, Variant, and glamorous Karmann Ghia 1500 entered production that year.

This Type 3 Variant was built in 1970. The current owner found it in Norway and immediately bought it from the 1 Owner. The Car shows no signs of rust and is in very good overall condition. It is still powered by its original engine and shifts with the original Gearbox. The overall mechanical condition is very good and it runs great.
Nowadays a Type 3 in this original and untouched condition is hard to find
