There is perhaps no other Italian design studio that was as proactive during the 1950s than Carrozzeria Ghia. Inspired by the elaborate chrome and fin aesthetics of the American Jet Age, Ghia’s designers in Turin created one futuristic body after another including some very notable Ferraris. In fact, one of the mere 26 Ferrari 375 MMs built was clothed by Ghia. 

Compared to its most famous sister, a sensual and aerodynamic Grand Tourer designed by Pinin Farina for Ingrid Bergman, Ghia’s Coupe Speciale appears much more masculine. Thanks to its impossibly long bonnet, wedge-shaped silhouette, abundant chrome trim and angular rear wings, it actually looks like a particularly elegant hot rod. And with its 335HP, 4.5-litre V12 and handy four-speed transmission, it probably would have fared pretty well over the quarter-mile back in the day.
