There’s a lot about the Omega Speedmaster that reminds us of the Porsche 911. It’s an absolute icon of 20th-century design, which has been produced, largely unchanged, for decades yet still manages to get under our skin. And if there’s a limited-edition version, it usually takes less than a day before they’re all sold out. Like Porsche with the 911, Omega is capitalising on the Speedmaster’s grand heritage (not least its proud position as the first watch to have been worn on the Moon) with a steady flow of commemorative watches that no diehard collector wants to miss. Luckily, you can find both vintage Speedmasters and the more recent limited editions in the Classic Driver Market. Take the ‘Tintin’ for example, or the watch dedicated to the now-cancelled 2020 Tokyo Olympics, an interesting artefact of contemporary history and a watch surely many collectors are eager to own. Here are our favourites – but feel free to browse the Classic Driver Market for even more outstanding Omegas.
