Alfa Romeo 164 3.0 V6

Dear Alfisti, we must warn you: it’s not safe to read this advertisement if you don’t want to buy anything. In particular cars. Because this Alfa Romeo 164 3.0 V6 is a one of a kind classic: including a beautiful shape, technical perfection, a full history and only one former owner. Exactly: ONE. We bet a 164% you’re heading to the Netherlands right away. Unless you want to miss a glimpse of our characteristic 80s/90s sports sedan with electric sunroof and 3.0 liters of naturally aspirated V6 fun. What. A. Machine!

History
The Alfa Romeo 164 shares its base with several Italian icons, but it doesn't show that. The one and only Pininfarina designed a distinctive exterior, making the 1987 Alfa a lot different from the Fiat Croma and Lancia Thema at the time. About 10 years later, successor 166 took things over in style, but even then we were far from tired of the Alfa 164. This 1989 pre-facelift version can be recognized by the original, larger headlight units and no chrome at all. In the last 33 years, our bright red 164 has driven just over 100,000 km. That’s about 3,000 km a year! And there’s only one single owner that can tell you about it… Thanks to this man the Alfa Romeo classic is perfectly maintained and still looks incredibly fresh. An absolute rarity!

Exterior
It’s simply impossible to ignore the design of the Alfa Romeo 164. The large, angular sports sedan has the typical 80s kind of styling. The gray bumpers and ditto contrasting panels on the sides, make its appearance even more robust. Original fog lights at the front are included in this particular case. Narrow rear light units connected by a red reflector in between is one of the other unique design features. In fiery Alfa red, the 164 is at its best, we think. And we guess many fans will share this opinion with us…

Interior
Icing on the cake is the beige leather upholstery: a traditional Alfa Romeo recipe! Besides, the interior is more than neat, all original parts are present and the leather seats are a feast for the eyes. Alfa Romeo also finished parts of the doors in the same beige leather. The dashboard and leather steering wheel are colored black, as are the A, B and C-pillars, providing a cozy feeling inside the big Alfa. Because the 164 still is a grand family car! Time to take our time machine for a drive…

Technique & performance
The 12-valve 3.0 liter Alfa Romeo V6 produces 184 hp and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in only 7.9 seconds. With a top speed of 230 km/h, it still is a very fast limousine in 2022. The 6-cylinder has a smooth character with a raw edge. Completely against Alfa Romeo tradition, the 164 sends all its horsepower towards the front axle. Nevertheless it distinguishes itself in driving experience. Certainly in this class, the Alfa 164 is quite sporty, without being uncomfortable. And that's exactly how it sounds too: not as loud as a Quadrifoglio or GTA, but it can count on lots of respect. So how fast can you be in Holland, you think?

Kind regards,
Prins Classics.
