Description
Taifun was commissioned in 1955 on behalf of Dr Werner Petrzilka and built by the Portier yacht yard in Meilen, Switzerland. Dr Petrzilka lived at this time with his family in a wonderful country estate in Gubelstein (Rapperswil, Switzerland) with direct access to the Lake Zurich. With its own landing jetty and boathouse, Taifun was not only used for cruising on the lake, but also for elegant arrival at one of the lakeside restaurants.
The current owner Stefan Camezind studied architecture at the time and worked as a gardener for the Petrzilka family during his studies. When the property was sold due to downsizing in 1983, Stefan Camenzind had the unique opportunity to acquire Taifun. Although now in possession of a classic motorboat, Stefan Camenzind lacked a mooring place and the financial means to put Taifun into operation after more than 10 years of idleness. Taifun was therefore once again put into hibernation and stored away. It eventually took 19 years until 2002, when Taifun, including the engine, was extensively restored by the boat builder Pius Wäger (www.holzboote.ch) and the engine specialists ZSW (www.zsw-ag.ch).
Due to the long period of time in which the boat was in storage and therefore not exposed to any fashion trends, everything about Taifun is still original, right down to the boat tools from 1955. Since its full restoration, Taifun has been continuously maintained by Pius Wäger and the engine specialists ZSW and kept in excellent condition. Taifun is a beautiful motorboat from the 1950s with a lot of history, character and an incredible amount of style and elegance.
