The Maserati Bora, what a fine piece of art it is. The go-ahead to develop the Bora was given fairly soon after the Citroën takeover. In contrast to all its competitors Maserati had no mid-engined car in its assortment. That situation could not continue any longer and it also had to be a special offering. With the Bora that problem was solved, being a quite an exceptional car. The seats are fixed with instead adjustable pedals and steering wheel column. It has a stainless steer roof, a full sized front trunk and extra room above the engine compartment. Our car is a 1973 one which has been in the Netherlands since 2014. The car is exceptional original and still looks great. We have no reason to doubt the 38,560 km on the clock.

The car’s exterior looks fantastic. It has lovely original and distinctive, Campagnolo rims shod in good quality, correctly sized tyres. The Rosso Fuoco has been thinly reapplied and is in good condition. The bodywork itself has some minor signs of use but overall is in good shape. The brightwork and window rubber all fit neatly and are in very good order.

The interior has beautiful and supple original black leather, that has been properly cared for through the years. The seats are as comfortable as they look. The Bora was intended to be a proper Grand Tourer and has a comfortable ride to match that of the seats together with air-conditioning and a radio. The Veglia instruments are a sight to behold and with the switching gear all work properly as they should.

Mechanically the car has enjoyed excellent care and is in a very healthy state. The 4.7 litre V8 engine develops 310 Ps attached to a manual ZF gearbox. The hydraulic brake system is courtesy of Citroën. The car also featured independent suspension all round, giving it fantastic handling. Maserati knew early on what their prospective customs wanted. They wanted a more reserved experience aimed at covering large distances and not tackling race tracks. They did not want the wild ride of a Lamborghini or the very sporty handling of a Ferrari. As far as the former is concerned Maserati certainly succeeded in its brief. The handling is spectacular as well as being perfectly suited to transversing the continent at speed. Italian GT enthusiasts will not get enough of the Maserati Bora 4700’s handling.

The brakes are, thanks to its hydraulic system, very responsive, providing a great deal of confidence whatever the speed.

In other words, this is a fine 1973 Maserati Bora 4700 in an eye-catching finish that has been very well looked after.
