Volvo Amazon (1969)

And let's face it: the Amazon has just about everything you can expect from a classic car of the Sixties. It looks very attractive, has good driving characteristics and the build quality is above average. Of course, Volvo also paid a lot of attention to the safety of the occupants at the time. That's why the Amazon is so solidly built.

But the Volvo Amazon also lends itself to simple adjustments. Modifications that take the performance to a much higher level, so that you can handle today's traffic. The driving characteristics can be easily improved as well, with only some simple modifications. It is not without reason that the Amazon is still very popular for classic rallies and historic touring. The car drives excellently – and does not break down.

Peet Classics adds a very special Volvo Amazon to its collection. This example dates from 1969, and has undergone a major restoration some years ago – in which Peter van Egmond was closely involved. During restoration, the focus was on daily use. The car’s body was completely sandblasted, plated and extensively seam-welded, as is customary with rally cars. All this to get even more rigidity in the body, which improves the driving characteristics even more. The body of the Amazon was then painted in the attractive Steel Blue Metallic lacquer. The light-alloy Panasport Racing "Minilites" with modern Vredestein radial tires also contribute to the very usable and surprisingly good driving characteristics of the Amazon. Two spare wheels are supplied with the car.

Normally, a 1969 Volvo Amazon is not a textbook example of luxury and comfort. Something has been done about that, during the restoration of the car: a thick sound-proof insulation mat already brings the noise level down, and thanks to the comfortable Recaro seats (with heating!) you are almost literally sitting like royalty. During the construction of the interior, a tasteful combination of dark brown leather and Alcantara was chosen, which forms a beautiful contrast with the light blue paint of the body and dashboard. The Moto-Lita sports steering wheel is also covered with dark brown leather, the floor of the car is carpeted with a dark brown wool.

The Amazon has also undergone a number of modifications under the skin to improve user-friendliness. The B20 engine is fed by two Weber carburettors. A reliable choice, in combination with the modern liquid-gas system that the Amazon is equipped with. The braking system has been upgraded to P1800 specifications, with a separate hydraulic circuit and discs all around. Power steering eases life in heavy city traffic and parking lots.

After completing the major professional restoration, the owner has spared no expense in maintaining the car and condition of the bodywork. The total presentation of this Amazon underlines the quality of the restoration.
