Set high in the Engadin, the now completely renovated Muottas Muragl is the first ‘positive energy’ hotel in the Swiss Alps. By that, the owners mean that it meets most of Switzerland’s strict environmental benchmarks, obtaining its energy from five different sources and reducing its overall consumption by a massive 64 per cent.
The hotel was built 104 years ago, and is located in the Engadin mountains near St Moritz. After considerable restoration and improvement work, it’s nearly twice its original size and, as mentioned, is now much ‘greener’ and kinder on the environment.
For those concerned that they might be swapping Moncler and Ralph Lauren for hair shirts and sandals need not worry: the result is a stylish, beautifully designed luxury hotel where all 16 guest rooms have a fabulous Alpine view.
