Description
The high-performance twin cam model of the MGA was added to the range in 1958. Available in both fixedhead and roadster versions. The new model could be visually identified by the fitment of knock on Dunlop wheels and scuttle mounted ‘Twin Cam’ badges. The new engine boasted a cross flow cylinder head in aluminium alloy, larger SU carburettors and twin chain driven overhead camshafts, whilst the displacement was increased to 1588cc. The Twin Cam engine boasted 108bhp and could propel the car onto 113mph. To cope with the increased performance the car was fitted with Dunlop disc brakes all round.
The MGA Twin Cam Roadster offered here at Autostorico (chassis number YD1/1025) is finished in its original colour of Glacier Blue with Cream leather interior trim. This original home market RHD example was manufactured between 5th – 13thJanuary 1959 and supplied new by University Motors Ltd London to its first owner Sqn leader Tim Meadows Clutterbuck a wartime Spitfire pilot. The car was specified with the following options; Disc wheels with centre locks, Side screens with sliding windows, Heater, Windscreen washer, Competition seats, Oil cooler, Close ratio gearbox, Andrex shock absorbers, Badge bar and Ashtray. Purchased by its current owner an MG enthusiast who immediately undertook a full no expense sparred two-year nut and bolt restoration at a cost of nearly £70,000. The engine has been totally rebuilt by Peter Woods (Westwood Portway) using new old stock head. Forged alloy pistons, Tuftrided crank. With a compression ratio of 8.5:1.
