Audi is a German luxury car brand, founded in 1909 by August Horch and becoming a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group in 1964. The Ingolstadt-based marque is well known for producing well-built road cars, but it also has a significant competition history; highlights include the pioneering 'Quattro' rally cars of the 1980s, and the more recent wins at the Le Mans 24H race in diesel-engined sports-prototypes.
